Teaching Music Appreciation for the Large Homeschool Family

Music Appreciation boarder

“Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul.” Plato

For several years our children have taken piano lessons and we have had an empasis on musicianship.  And we enjoy listening to classical music and hymns during the we really had not studied music appreciation. So when the Zeezok package arrived at our home I stood there  awe struck and pleased as I quickly looked at their amazing curriculum.

Oh, and good news we have a wonderful giveaway found at the end of this post from Zeezok so maybe you too can stand awe stuck 😀 .

What is included in Music Appreciation Collection 1:

So Zeezok’s Music Appreciation book acts as a guide. At the beginning of section of  each composer there is a weekly outline. This weekly outline provides you with an EASY to follow road map through the curriculum.  All of the weeks include reading, comprehension questions, character qualities and tidbits of interest. Each week has a variety of different activities for the children to complete which includes listening to music, copywork, map work, games, vocabulary, lapbook , timeline & more. So basically you are doing, a well crafted, easy to complete unit study on each of the seven musicians.

So as y’all know we focus on relaxed big family friendly classical curriculum here at Aspired Living. So I was oh so pleasantly pleased to see the wonderful Opal Wheeler Biographies included in the package. Which are great books from which to narrate.

Additionally, as Classical Educators you will appreciate the Comprehension questions, copywork, map work & vocabulary found throughout this book. Additionally, if you are a large family homeschooler you will be able to easily utilize this book with multiple students. Simply by using the Opal Wheeler book & the Tidbits sections as a read aloud and having the youngest students narrate and work in the coloring book that goes along with this program. While your older students will be able to work through the workbook pretty independently. You can come together again for the myriad of fun activities within this curriculum, such as the Oxidation Experiment in our Bach Unit.
