As a frugal Sports Mom buying team pictures was a very painful experience. In fact, we really struggled with the question of purchasing Team Pictures last year. Frankly they are too expensive for our modest budget. In order for us to get Team Photos for all 4 kids it would of cost us nearly a $100. <OUCH> Our biggest is issue is that we have been getting them every year because that is what all good parents do, right? And who wants to be that parent?
Then I had a thought that had occured to me in previous years, but that I had totally resisted doing because I thought it was so rude or something. I’m not really sure what I thought but I know I didn’t want to do this. But this year with team photo fees mounting and nearing$100 I finally broke down and did it. What did I do? I snapped a photo while the team was having their pictures
Getting the Picture
- Stay out of the professionals way
- Realize & accept you will not have the best angle, the professional will.
- Take it from the closest and best angle that you can
- Then take their individual yourself just before or after they sit with their team for their team photo.
How to make the photos
I used Picture Monkey to make my photos and I used a previous years photo as my template. The whole process took me about 15 minutes per kiddo. I then ordered my photos online from Sam’s Club Photo Shop.
Cost for photos
So lets break down the cost…
- From the League: $22 for 1 team picture, and you receive 2 -4×6 and 4 wallets
- Homemade: $2.80 from Sam’s Club
Basically you pay 10%of the “official team picture” cost, for a bit of effort. I ended up ordering extra pictures for the grandparents so my total cost for two kids was 10.98 instead of $44 (we had the first two children done by the league then my pocket book started to ache and we did the last two kids ourselves) and I am thrilled with that and the grandparents will be thrilled to get some sports pictures too!
I will never again pay exorbitant prices for team photos! I hope this enables & encourages you to stick to your budget and save money on the sports field.
